Púca festival to begin at the birthplace of Halloween next week

The festival takes place across hubs Trim and Athboy from Thursday, 30 October to Sunday 2 November.

THE PÚCA FESTIVAL is returning to the birthplace of Halloween next week – Co Meath.

The festival, developed in partnership between Fáilte Ireland and Meath County Council, takes place across hubs Trim and Athboy from Thursday, 30 October to Sunday 2 November.

The four-day festival promises to be filled with “music, fire, food, folklore, and immersive experiences set in Ireland’s Ancient East”.

Promotional material sets out its highlights as its opening and closing ceremonies: on Thursday, there will be Athboy’s Samhain fire ceremony and Trim’s Púca procession, which are to celebrate some of Ireland’s ancient Samhain traditions.

The High Kings will be performing, as will comedian Jason Byrne, with a visual performance from The Pyro Collective.

On Sunday, comedian Emma Doran will wrap up the festival.

Halloween will see The 2 Johnnies with guests Chasing Abbey, Mark McCabe, Fin Furey and The Oars, with Blindboy to tell stories.

There will be a free shuttle bus running hourly between the two hubs of Trim and Athboy for festivalgoers who want to experience the best of both sites. There will be parking at the hubs.

Tickets are available here.
