Suspect car injures woman and rams garda car in daytime chase

An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A WOMAN AND two gardaí have been taken to hospital after a dramatic daytime incident at a petrol station in Meath.

At about 11.30am today, gardaí on patrol in the Kiltale area as part of Operation Thor (tackling rural crime) spotted a target vehicle.

The silver Volkswagen Golf, occupied by four men, was seen at a forecourt of a service station.

As the gardaí drove towards the vehicle, it reversed into a civilian car, injuring a woman. Its driver then rammed the car into the garda car and fled the scene.

Two of the men in the car took off on foot and were followed by both gardaí.

One – an 18-year-old – was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is being detained at Trim garda station.

The woman injured in the car and both gardaí were taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown for treatment.

The VW Golf was found a short time later in a field about a mile from Mullagh Cross on the Summerhill to Dunboyne Road.

Local gardaí searching the area are being helped by the Air Support Unit.

An appeal for witnesses has been made with anyone with information asked to contact gardaí at local stations or on the Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
