Do you usually stick to your nearest petrol station or travel further for a better price?

There are reports of higher volumes of fuel being bought in the North, according to the CEO of Fuels for Ireland.

THIS MORNING ON The Journal, Diarmuid Pepper reports that while fuel prices have risen sharply in the Republic, petrol stations across the border are now seeing an increase in customers.

Although ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have also affected prices in the North, fuel is still cheaper there than at many filling stations in southern counties. As a result, many motorists in border counties are travelling north to fill up.

Fuels for Ireland CEO Kevin McPartland said that rising costs mean people are “highly motivated to find the cheapest fuel they can and that means going north of the border”.

While travelling to another county isn’t practical for everyone, especially those living further south, it got us thinking about how people decide where to fill up.

So we’re asking: Do you usually stick to your nearest petrol station or travel further to save money?

Poll Results:

I usually go to whichever petrol station is closest (2901)
I sometimes travel further if fuel is cheaper (1728)
I usually travel further to get a better price (1515)
Other factors impact where I go (558)
I don’t drive/This doesn’t apply to me (337)
