The performance took place at the UNESCO heritage site in September.

MORE THAN 500 singers from across Northern Ireland made history last month, as Rock Choir became the first ever choir to perform and film at the Giant’s Causeway.

The large-scale performance, which took place on Sunday 14 September, saw the group deliver a stirring version of Dreams by The Cranberries against the backdrop of the world-famous UNESCO heritage site on the north Antrim coast.

It’s believed to be the largest choir performance ever staged at the landmark, which is managed by the National Trust.

Edward Mason, General Manager at the Giant’s Causeway, said the performance left the team “absolutely speechless”.

“The heartfelt rendition of Dreams by The Cranberries left the Giant’s Causeway team absolutely speechless – the atmosphere was nothing short of magical!” Mason said.

For many of the participants, it was a “bucket list” experience and a chance to take part in something uniquely Northern Irish.

Rock Choir was founded by musician Caroline Redman Lusher MBE in 2005 and has since grown into the UK’s largest contemporary choir, with over 33,000 members.

Its Irish branch launched just three years ago and now has more than 1,000 singers across Belfast and the surrounding areas.

The release of the Giant’s Causeway performance coincides with Rock Choir Ireland’s third anniversary and the launch of a new charity partnership with the Northern Ireland Mental Health Arts Festival.

Held each May, the festival promotes mental wellbeing and challenges stigma through the arts.

Co-chair of the festival, Noelle McAlinden, said the partnership highlights the positive impact of communal singing on mental health.

“We’ve witnessed first-hand the power of communal singing through Rock Choir — a compassionate, creative community where every voice is valued,” McAlinden said.

“You’ve lifted spirits, brought solace, nurtured expression, and helped people discover voices they didn’t know they had.”

Rock Choir leaders say the project shows how singing together in nature can lift mood, reduce stress and strengthen community ties.

One of Northern Ireland’s six Rock Choir leaders, Clare Galway, conducted the performance and also played a violin solo in the video.

It was a truly powerful afternoon.

“500 voices blending effortlessly together, set against the most incredible backdrop of the Giant’s Causeway,” she said.

“To sing at such a symbolic and poetic landmark was deeply connecting, almost ethereal. The clouds cleared, the sun shone, and we felt proud to be part of Northern Ireland’s musical and cultural landscape.”

The video is being released this week across Rock Choir’s social media channels, and will also be shared by the Northern Ireland Mental Health Arts Festival to mark the beginning of their partnership.
