A COUNCILLOR FROM Derry City has resigned his seat following claims in a Sunday newspapers that he sent lewd messages from a council-owned tablet.
Yesterday’s Sunday Life carried a front-page story alleging council member Jimmy Carr had posted pictures on a ‘swingers’ website.
Carr has also resigned from the SDLP.
He said in a statement:
“In light of recent allegations I feel that I must concentrate on my health and my personal life in a private and non-confrontational arena.
I am also mindful in this decision that Derry City Council should not be a focus in any allegations levied against me.
The SDLP withdrew its support from Carr last month after it emerged police were in possession of a tablet computer owned by the council, the BBC reports.
He stood as an independent, but failed to retain his seat on the enlarged council that’s set to replace the current authority later this year.
