SEAT will launch a new car every six months until 2020

Including its first ever electric vehicle.

LAST WEEK, SPANISH manufacturer SEAT confirmed it would have a slew of new car launches in the next few years: one gas car every six months until 2020, to be exact, plus an electric vehicle to close things off.

The first two vehicles will be the SEAT Tarraco and the CUPRA Ateca, landing at the end of this year.

Next year the new generation SEAT Leon will be available in dealerships with two variants, the five-door model and the ST family sized version.

As for SEAT’s first fully electric vehicle, it’ll be built on Volkswagen Group’s famous MEB platform, with a range of 500 kilometres and some self-driving capability.

The future plans of the Spanish car maker were announced at SEAT’s annual results presentation in Madrid.

SEAT President Luca de Meo confirmed that a hybrid version of the new generation Leon would also land in 2020 – another step in the manufacturer’s plan to boost its electric car offerings.

The model offensive comes on the back of the highest investment figure since SEAT’s Martorell factory was built in 1992. In 2017 SEAT allocated €464 million for research and development alone, making SEAT the leading industrial investor in Spain.

“In just a few years we have turned SEAT into a relevant brand for a vast majority of European customers,” said de Meo.
