The collision happened at the corner of Abbey Street and O’Connell Street on the north side of the city shortly before 1pm this afternoon.

LAST UPDATE | 1 Apr

A MALE CYCLIST has died following a collision with a truck in Dublin city centre.

The collision happened at the junction of Middle Abbey Street and O’Connell Street on the north side of the city shortly before 1pm this afternoon.

The man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

No other injuries were reported.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators had been tasked to examine the scene earlier.

Following road closures to allow those examinations, in the past half hour the scene has been cleared by gardaí and roads fully reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

They are particularly appealing to road users and pedestrians who were in the area of Middle Abbey Street and O’Connell Street between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, to make it available to them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on (01) 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a statement, Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam said his thoughts “are with all those involved and with the emergency services at the scene”.

“We must continue to do all we can to improve road safety across Dublin. Our city belongs to everyone and we all need to look out for one another,” he said.

As a result of the road closure, there is no Red Line Luas currently running between Smithfield and Connolly/The Point. Services are running between Smithfield and Tallaght/Saggart.

Green Line services are operating normally.

Dublin Bus services were being diverted earlier, but all diversions have been lifted.
