WESTPORT RAIL SERVICES were suspended for a time earlier after a fire in the undercarriage of a train.
An Irish Rail spokesperson said the fire developed in the undercarriage near the gearbox on one of the carriages of the 12.45pm Heuston to Westport train.
The fire developed between Athlone and Roscommon, near the Glanduff level crossing in south Roscommon.
Fire suppression systems and a fire extinguisher were used, and the fire was extinguished without impacting the interior of the train.
The Irish Rail spokesperson said that, as a precaution, the driver arranged for passengers to be moved from the relevant carriage to an adjoining carriage.
Update: Westport services remain suspended until further notice.
