Sinn Féin and Independents form Dáil group

The alliance will allow the group to take part in leaders questions and force a vote on a motion of no confidence in the government.

FIVE SINN FÉIN TDs and two Independent TDs have agreed to form a technical grouping in the Dáil, meaning they will now be able to take part in leaders questions and force a vote on a motion of no confidence in the government.

Sinn Féin’s five TDs joined forces with Finian McGrath and Maureen O’Sullivan.

The group will now be able to question the Taoiseach twice weekly for the rest of this Dáil term.

In a joint statement, the seven said:

We have held a series of positive and constructive meetings over the past two weeks and have reached agreement on the logistics of the new Technical Group.

We emphasise that the Sinn Féin party and each of the two non-party Deputies will maintain their respective independence and separate identity in terms of policy and voting in Dáil divisions.
