12 stop-and-gawp shots of glorious summer skies over Ireland

Summer begins on May 1, and we’re rolling with it.

SUMMER HAS BEEN A long time coming. A really, really long time. Spring seemed just around the corner, then Storm Emma took it away again. A nation held its breath.

But now summer is finally here, and we’ve got the skies to prove it.

1. This marshmallow sky over Dublin is worth getting out of bed for

2. Wild Atlantic Way road trip, anyone?

Banba's Crown is the very northernmost point of the Irish mainland. Malin Head is a little further west and a kilometre or so south. You can see a Napoleonic watchtower sitting on the hill. The image was made right around the autumnal equinox. At this time of the year, the sun rises directly in the east and sets directly west, and so we're looking straight west in this photograph. The northernmost point of Ireland, therefore, is the rightmost collection of rocks in the photograph. When there is strong solar activity, the Northern Lights can be seen from Donegal and Banba's Crown becomes very crowded with people hoping to catch a glimpse of this rare phenomenon. #landscape #landscapephotography #photography #photographer #landscapephotographer #ireland #irish #petercox #atlantic #banbascrown #sunset #donegal #countydonegal

3. Galway’s skies are actual perfection this time of year

Couldn't leave Galway (our home for 3 days) without visiting the (small) city ourselves 😂 and since the city really was that small, the walking tour we did was only 1.5 hours unlike the usual 3 hours twice a day that we're used to - leaving plenty of time to explore on our own! Eyeleash (unsure of spelling but Gaelic for Elizabeth) showed us the Spanish wall, the longest, fastest river in Europe (not the longest OR the fastest but the combination of the two 😂), taught us the symbolism of the claddagh which was invented in Galway and gave us the best local places to enjoy a beer and some live Irish music 🎶 Just a 20 minute walk from the heart of Galway city is this pretty beach, where some crazies were swimming in +13 degree weather. After convincing myself not to buy a claddagh ring - supposedly bad luck if you buy it yourself, we made our way to one of the suggested pubs (the first of our self-made pub crawl). I had orchard thieves, an incredible cider, but unfortunately they didn't have live music 😢 so we continued our pub crawl to destination 2 where we found a group of Irish men and women "jamming" 💃🕺 definitely a must when you're in Ireland! ☘️
