Pre-workout supplement recalled due to presence of 'amphetamine-like substances'

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the recall today.

TWO BATCHES OF a pre-workout training formula had to be recalled today due to the presence of “amphetamine-like substances” in the product.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the warning today for the Dorian Yates NOX PUMP Pre-training Formula, after they were informed of the presence of the substances.

The product was sold to a number of sport and health stores in Ireland.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Products Safety Authority said that two batches of the product may contain the following substances:

  • Methyl-synephrine (Oxilofrine).
  • ß-Methylphenethylamine.
  • N_ß-dimethylphenethylamine.

The FSAI said that these substances have “an amphetamine-like effect and are harmful to health.”

The product also contains on the ingredients list the unauthorised food ingredient Acadia rigidula.

Recall

The FSAI says that any businesses that have sold the product to customers must set up a point-of-sale notice in their store or on their website warning people not to consume it.

They also have to withdraw all batches containing Acacia rigidula in their ingredients from sale and inform their local environmental health officer.

Anyone who has bought the product is told not to take it. Anyone who has taken it and is feeling unwell is told to seek medical advice.

Pre-workout formulas are popular amongst bodybuilders and gym goers. They usually contain a mix of ingredients designed to optimise body performance before a workout.
