This is why you should ALWAYS keep an eye out for approaching tanks

This learner driver found out the hard way.

IN FAIRNESS, WHAT to do when faced with an oncoming tank isn’t something generally covered in the rules of the road.

One learner driver in Germany was faced with this very situation.

Local police say the 18 year old was driving her Toyota Yaris in Lippe yesterday, when she pulled left on to the Panzerringstraße (or tank ring road)

It is often used by British military units located in the area.

If the name wasn’t enough to encourage the young driver to err on the side of caution on the road, the column of rapidly approaching tanks should have been a bit of a giveaway.

She didn’t spot them, a 60-tonne British Challenger 2 was unable to stop, and the tank ploughed into the front of the tiny hatchback causing an estimated €12,000 in damage.

The teenager escaped unharmed.

A spokesperson for the British army told BBC Newsbeat that tank drivers, in this case a 24-year-old man, go through “a very vigorous process before being allowed on the roads”

“It is something we do take very, very seriously, especially with beasts of that size travelling on public roads.”
