EVERY HOUR – on the half hour – TheJournal.ie brings you your fix of election tallies, predictions and results. Here’s how the winners and losers of GE11 are playing out so far.

The Winners:

  • Enda Kenny - who was elected in absentia in Mayo with 17,472 votes – around 5,000 over the quota – after he’d had to take a helicopter to Dublin.
  • Micheál Martin – who was comfortably elected on the first count in Cork South Central, making him the first Fianna Fáil TD to top the poll anywhere.
  • Michael Ring – Enda Kenny’s running mate was also elected in Mayo on the first count.
  • Mattie McGrath – the former Fianna Fáil turned Independent candidate in Tipperary South has been elected on the fifth and final count, with 9,978 votes.
  • Pádraig MacLochlainn – the Sinn Fein candidate was elected on the 3rd count in Donegal North East with 9,585 votes.
  • Paschal Donohoe – the Fine Gael Senator who narrowly missed being elected on the first count in Dublin Central, with just 20 votes fewer than the quota.

The Losers:

  • Fianna Fáil’s dignity – Brian Cowen, the Taoiseach (yes, he’s still Taoiseach) was rudely interrupted by Fianna Fáil just moments into his interview, when it went to Mayo to get the live results of the count there – which saw Enda Kenny top the poll with an impressive 17,472 votes. Simultaneously, RTE television cut off Micheal Martin to go to the Mayo count. That had to hurt.
  • Rumour – RTE has had to correct a mistaken report via Twitter that Ivana Bacik had conceded defeat to Richard Boyd Barrett in Dun Laoghaire. Bacik says she has not conceded, but she says the gap between her and the People Before Profit candidate for the fourth seat in Dun Laoghaire will be “hard to bridge”.
  • Gerry Adams – whose interview with Sean O’Rourke on RTE radio was repeatedly interrupted by what sounded like a fire alarm, or – as O’Rourke quipped – “as some unkind person here has suggested, a bomb scare”.
  • Cavan – voters there will have to wait for the results after a series of delays and recounts.
  • Martin Mansergh – who’s been eliminated in Tipperary South, but is not retiring from politics and may run for the Seanad.
  • Barry Andrews – the Dun Laoghaire TD has been eliminated in the seventh count.
