A Garda van that was set alight during the riot Rollingnews

Three teenage boys charged in connection with riot at Saggart Ipas centre

Today’s developments bring the number of people arrested in relation to the investigation to 36.

THREE TEENAGE BOYS have been charged by gardaí as part of an investigation into the riot that took place outside an Ipas centre in Saggart, Co Dublin on 21 October.

A Garda spokesperson said investigators from the Dublin Metropolitan Region Crime South, supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team, carried out searches under warrant in south Dublin and arrested “three juvenile males” as part of this investigation.

They had been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Garda Stations in the Dublin Region.

Today’s developments bring the number of people arrested in relation to the investigation to 36.

They are due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon at 4.30pm.

On the night of the riot, gardaí were pelted with projectiles and a Garda van was set on fire. What had begun as a protest organised in the wake of the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in the area quickly turned to violence and large-scale disorder.

There were similar scenes the following night near the Citywest Ipas centre, but the crowd was not as large and gardaí managed to push them back more quickly.

Gardaí said today that investigations were ongoing and continued to appeal to those with any information on people involved to contact the investigation team at Clondalkin Garda Station on 01 6667600 or any member of An Garda Síochána at any Garda Station.

Members of the public can provide information confidentially to An Garda Síochána by contacting the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
