US PRESIDENT DONALD Trump shared a special message to attendees of the US ambassador’s celebration of the 250th American Independence Day on Wednesday in Phoenix Park.
In this message, he mentioned his golf course in Doonbeg, Clare as he said “I think I’m going to come over and see it. We’re going to watch Rory [McIlroy] and all the great players – that will be something very, very special.”
The 2026 Amgen Irish Open will take place at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in County Clare, from 10 September to 13 September.
He continued, “We have a place that’s so top: and we have the Irish Open going to be there, and we’re going to have a tremendous celebration.”

The President’s love for golf was prominent in the message as he mentioned a special hello to US Ambassador Edward Walsh who he said is “a great golfer, by the way.”
He also extended his greetings to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, as he was in attendance at the event. Trump described him as a “fantastic guy. I’ve got to know him pretty well, and all of our Irish friends.”
In the video speech, he mentioned how he believes Irish-Americans have played an integral role in the American story.
“The Irish, by the way, were great soldiers, they’re great fighters. When they have a fight, they fight, but they like other things more than fighting, but they are rough and tough and smart.”
There were over 4,000 guests as this year’s gathering which took place at the US ambassador’s residence in Deerfield, Phoenix Park. It is believed to be the one of the largest Independence Day receptions ever held in Ireland.
The event featured live performances from acts such as Sister Sledge and Nathan Carter, and concluded with a firework display, much to local residents’ disapproval.
