Some crèches may not be able to open tomorrow after missing registration deadline

Tusla said it was conscious of the disruption the potential closure of these services could cause for parents and families.

SOME 17 CHILDCARE providers may not be able to reopen tomorrow after the Christmas break due to missing the deadline to renew their registration.

Child and family agency Tusla today said that it was communicated to all Early Years providers on a regular basis throughout last year that registration to provide services must be renewed in order to reopen this year, with their previous registration expiring on 31 December 2025.

Seventeen services have incomplete renewals. Some of these services are providers who are in the process of renewing their registration, the agency said.

Tusla said it was conscious of the disruption the potential closure of these services could cause for parents and families, and said it has staff working over the weekend to assist providers in registering so that services may operate as scheduled tomorrow.

It did not disclose the names of the unregistered childcare providers.

A spokeswoman for Tusla said: “We are hopeful that most of the providers will engage with the registration team and their registration will be complete before Monday, avoiding service disruption.”

A helpline was established for providers to fast track registration.

Of all Early Years providers in Ireland, 98.8% – 3,278 – successfully registered before the deadline.
