The UK Home Office is reportedly exploring the possibility of removing gender descriptions from passports.

THE UNITED KINGDOM may be considering the possibility of not displaying gender on passports, according to reports.

A Home Office spokesperson reportedly told PinkNews.co.uk that it was “exploring with international partners and relevant stakeholders the security implications of gender not being displayed on the passport”.

The news comes just days after Australia announced that it would introduce a third gender on passports, which would allow people to choose from a widened selection of genders: male, female or indeterminate.

At the moment, transgender people can obtain passports in their new gender, but those born with ambiguous genitalia are forced to pick either male or female.
