So, technically the Opel Speedster is a British car, as it was made by Lotus Cars at its plant in Hethel in Norfolk – but it was sold by German car maker Opel and used a 147hp 2.2-litre GM Ecotec engine from the Opel Astra.

The Speedster is a super lightweight car, weighing just 875kg with an aluminium chassis tub and bodywork made entirely of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP). This rear-wheel drive car is great fun to drive, has a top speed of 217km/h (135mph) and can go from 0-100km/h in under six seconds.
