A big turnout despite the poor weather as Jenson Button got his big engine out for motorsport fans.

OVER 110,000 people are said to have attended the Bavaria City Racing event in Dublin this afternoon despite the dreadful Bank Holiday weather.

Organisers said that the event successfully transformed the capital in to race track in which some of motorsport’s biggest names demonstrated their skills for around five hours.

The free event saw over 70 vehicles involved with former F1 World Champion Jenson Button, who was in Athy yesterday, entertaining the crowds in his Vodafone McLaren F1 car as he got up to speeds of 100 miles per hour on the streets of Dublin.

Despite the weather, Button was in good spirits: “The main thing for us was putting on a show so the weather didnt really make much of a difference. It was great to see such a big crowd despite the weather.

“This event is great for motorsports fans in Ireland, they get to hear and see a F1 car and just went crazy.”

It was the first time ever that an F1 event had come to Dublin with other motorsport involvement seeing representatives from the World Rally Championship, Superbikes, SuperCars, drifters and stunt vehicles also taking part.

“We’re extremely proud of having been able to bring the top in motor sport to Dublin. After Rotterdam and Moscow, the city centre of Dublin and its remarkable locations offer a magnificent new décor to treat the crowd to a true Formula One spectacle,” Bavaria’s Peer Swinkels said.
