Status Yellow ice warning issued for 10 counties after first snowfall overnight

Temperatures could drop to -3 degrees tonight with widespread frost and some icy patches.

LAST UPDATE | 20 Nov 2025

A STATUS YELLOW weather warning has been issued for 10 counties in Leinster and Munster.

The low temperature/ice warning follows snowfall overnight on higher ground, including parts of Donegal.

The fresh warning covers Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Westmeath, and Wicklow.

Temperatures could drop to -3 degrees or lower in some places. Met Éireann says animals could be impacted by the cold weather.

The warning comes into effect at 11pm tonight and expires at 8am on Friday.

A separate snow-ice warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, and Sligo is due to expire at midday.

Wintry showers last night may have left icy patches and lying snow in places, leading to possible travel delays this morning.

Counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry are under a Status Yellow warning as well. It will also expire at midday.

Meanwhile, blizzard conditions are possible in parts of north-east England, which is also under the equivalent of a Status Yellow warning.

As much as 25cm of snow could settle on high ground on the North York Moors and the surrounding area.

Forecast

Ireland can expect a very cold but mostly dry start the day, apart from a few showers dying out over Connacht and Ulster.

Crisp sunshine will break through with plenty of clear and dry weather for this afternoon and evening.

Tonight will be largely dry and clear, but temperatures could fall to as low as 0 to -3 degrees leading to some frost and icy stretches. Coldest temperatures will be in the east.

Cloud will build from the west later in the night.
