Cold weather to continue today as weather warnings to lift later this morning

Warnings are in place for much of the country until 9am and warn of black ice, sharp frost and icy stretches.

COLD WEATHER IS set to continue today, even as weather warnings are to lift at 9am.

Low temperature and ice warnings are currently in place for Leinster, Munster, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Roscommon, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo.

The warnings are in place until 9am and warn of black ice, sharp frost and icy stretches. Temperatures were said to fall between -1 and -3 degrees generally.

Some counties were also forecast to face wintry showers with sleet and some snow, as well as sharp frost and ice.

Those travelling are warned of hazardous conditions on the roads.

Met Éireann said it will be a “cold and dry start” over the eastern half of the country today with some frost and icy patches.

It will be mostly cloudy, after which rain and drizzle in the west will move eastwards across the country through the morning and the afternoon.

Sunny spells and scattered showers will follow from the west, with highest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees, which will be cooler further east.
