2011 has been a startling year for news.

From natural disasters in Japan to the general election in February, from Arab Spring protests to the worldwide Occupy movement, from the Queen’s visit to Ireland to the never-ending eurozone crisis, it seems like not a single week has gone by this year without a huge news story hitting the headlines.
