11-year-old 'mayor for a day' renames street after Justin Bieber

Caroline Gonzalez wins a public contest aimed at stimulating greater interest in government. Her first act is… typical.

THE 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL who won a public contest allowing her to become the mayor of her city for a day has announced her first major act in office: renaming part of the city’s Main Street after teen heartthrob Justin Bieber.

A temporary sign for ‘Justin Bieber Way’ was erected this morning during a ceremony in Forney, Texas.

City Manager Brian Brooks said the sign was put up on the authority of 11-year-old Caroline Gonzalez, who won a contest aimed at getting young people interested in municipal government.

The new mayor is active in her local student council, in recycling and in community service projects.

Brooks said city officials weren’t able to reach Bieber in order to invite him to the ceremony in Forney, which is about 15 miles east of Dallas.

The tween politician’s act won’t cost the community much. Officials say the sign was made for about $20 and would only be displayed for today.
