Garda probe after safe full of cash stolen from Westmeath filling station

The incident happened over the weekend.

GARDAÍ IN ATHLONE are appealing for information after a filling station was robbed over the weekend.

The incident happened at Glassan in the early hours of Saturday morning. A safe with what gardai described as a substantial amount of cash was taken. A large quantity of cigarettes were also stolen.

Investigating gardaí at Athlone are appealing for information in relation to this incident.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí particularly want to hear from any motorists who may have noticed anything suspicious between the hours from 12am to 6am on the main Athlone to Ballymahon Road, the Moate Road out of Glasson and the Killinure Road.

“Anyone with information or can assist with this investigation is asked to contact Athlone Garda Station on 090-6498557, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.”
