Appeal after driver tries to pull teenage girl into car

The man is described as being of thin build, aged around 30, with a “broad country accent”.

POLICE IN ANTRIM are appealing for information after a driver ‘lunged’ at a 16-year-old girl and tried tried to grab her through the open passenger door of his car.

It happened at around 8.15pm on Tuesday night on Ramoan Road in Ballycastle.

A car pulled up behind the teenager as she walked, and the driver – a man aged around 30 – began to shout obscenities.

“The girl then entered Leyland Road where the driver continued shouting obscenities at her,” PSNI Inspector John Allen said in a statement.

“The driver then turned his car off and lunged across the passenger seat and attempted to grab her through the open passenger door.”

The girl ran off – and the driver left the area.

Police have given a description of the man as being of thin build, but toned, and with a shaved head.

“He appeared to be tall in height and spoke with a broad country accent,” Inspector Allen said.

“The car is described as being a dull blue colour. It appeared to be quite old with some rust on it.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Police at Ballycastle on the non-emergency number 101.”
