GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for information about a black BMW with English license plates that rammed a squad car yesterday in Portlaoise.

The English-registered BMW 1 Series was spotted in Laois around Mountrath, Ballyfin, and Portlaoise between 2pm and 3pm yesterday, and had four occupants.

However, it may have also been spotted as far away as Cork and Tipperary. Several members of the public have already been in touch with gardaí with reported sightings.

Anyone who may have observed this vehicle prior to yesterday’s incident are asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.

Two gardaí were injured in the incident, and one passenger of the black car. Four men were arrested at the scene.

The BMW flipped on to its roof in the crash. The occupants left the vechicle at the scene and fled.

The collision occurred while gardaí were responding to a number of burglaries in the area.

Yesterday’s crash is under investigation by GSOC under Section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act.
