Traffic disrupted as bus goes on fire in Kildare

The incident occurred on the Straffan Road in Maynooth.

GARDAÍ ARE IN the process of removing a burnt out bus from the Straffan Road in Maynooth after it went on fire near the GlenRoyal Hotel earlier this afternoon.

The bus, which was carrying a number of students, caught fire following a mechanical issue at about 2pm. All passengers were evacuated safely and nobody was injured in the incident.

The road was blocked for a time and local diversions were put in place. Although reopened to traffic, AA Roadwatch is reporting long delays in the area and has advised motorists to take alternative routes where possible.

It is not yet clear what company owns the bus involved in the blaze.

Reader James McInerney captured this video footage of the bus on fire.
