Cameron and Sarkozy to visit Libya, says Libyan official

The British and French leaders are expected in Libya tomorrow, an Libyan official told the Associated Press.

AN OFFICIAL WITH Libya’s governing body says that the president of France and Britain’s prime minister are travelling to Libya on Thursday, the first heads of state to do so.

There was no official confirmation of the visit from Downing Street or Nicolas Sarkozy’s office.

However, Suleiman Fortia, representative of the Libyan city of Misrata to the National Transitional Council, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the two leaders are expected.

France and Britain pressed for NATO action to protect civilians against Muammar Gaddafi’s troops.
