Man dies after car crashes into river

The incident happened near Cloonfad in Roscommon early this morning.

A 35-YEAR-OLD MAN has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a river in Roscommon.

This happened at around 8am this morning when the car he was travelling in left the road on the R327 near Cloonfad and entered the Dalgan River.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been removed to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Garda forensic collision investigators have carried out a technical examination of the scene and the Coroner has been informed.

The road remains closed this afternoon and diversions are in place.
