Two people dead after separate drowning incidents in Galway

Both bodies have been taken University Hospital Galway where post mortem examinations will be carried out.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after two people died in separate drowning incidents in Galway this afternoon.

The body of a woman was recovered from Galway harbour after emergency services received a call from a passerby at around 2.30pm.

The woman, aged in her 40s or 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later a young man got into difficulty while swimming with friends in the River Corrib around Dangan.

The body of the man, who is believed 19, was recovered from the water by the coast guard and he was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Both bodies have been taken University Hospital Galway where post mortem examinations will be carried out.
