Five-year-old girl dies after zip wire accident

Alexia Walenkaki suffered head injuries after the collapse of a tree attached to a zip wire.

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD girl has died after being injured by the collapse of a tree with a zip wire attached.

The incident happened in Mile End Park in east London on Friday.

The child, who has been named locally as Alexia Walenkaki, suffered severe head injuries when a tree being used as a swing fell down on top of her, the Metropolitan Police have said this evening.

Police had attended the scene along with the London Ambulance Service and found the child in cardiac arrest.

She was taken to a nearby east London hospital where she died at 6.43pm on Friday evening.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the girl’s mother, Vida Kwotuah, said, “I was watching her every move, I sat where I could see her and keep an eye on her. All of a sudden I see this log falling down and I started screaming.”

In a tweet this afternoon the Mile End Neighbourhood Policing team has expressed their sadness at the incident.

A post-mortem examination is set to take place on Wednesday.
