THE HSE PAID out more than €45 million in negligence claims last year according to new figures from the State Claims Agency (SCA).
The figures published in the Medical Independent show that a total of €45.8 million was paid in damages to patients who sustained injuries in Health Service Executive hospitals.
The publication previously disclosed that €1.3 million was paid out to HSE employees injured at work.
James Fogarty writes that SCA Director Ciarán Breen has noted the “disproportionately high level of legal costs associated with clinical negligence actions”.
