POLICE AND PROTESTERS have clashed this morning at the illegal travellers’ site at Dale Farm in Essex as bailiffs attempt to evict residents who lost their legal bid to stay on the site.
The residents fought a long legal battle against Basildon Council to remain on the site, but were told on Monday that they had lost their last chance to appeal. The council appealed to residents to leave Dale Farm peacefully and in a safe manner.
Protesters erected barricades and re-enforced fencing along the site in an attempt to block access to the authorities. Enforcement officers and riot police came to the camp this morning and scuffles broke out as they attempted to enter the site. Protesters threw bricks at police and officers used tasers in response.
