Hundreds of people have been arrested as rioting and looting spread to Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol.

BRITISH PRIME Minister David Cameron is holding crisis meetings today over the escalating unrest in London, which spread last night to Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool.

Buildings and cars were burned by groups of rioters, shop windows were smashed and stores looted.

Police are calling for people to identify anyone involved in the rioting and community groups are organising clean-up operations in a number of areas this morning. While some people woke up to burnt-out buildings this morning, others, like Ben Schofield, watched their cars burn during the disturbances last night:

Yes – Liverpool now burning too. That’s my car on fire.

  • ” you might as well take it if it’s going” … a direct quote from a looter walking past my window in Ilford town centre last night. Sums up the attitude. Earlier (about 7pm) two guys walking past the house were bragging to people on the street as the carried a 42in 3D TV looted from PRC on Cranbrook Rd in Ilford. Some fancy cars parked up in the street as drivers went into the high street to loot, returning to drive away to their own parts of London with their stolen items.

Thankfully Ilford wasn’t the worst affected – though some jewellery stores and tv stores were hit, the streets looked ok en route to the train this morning.

Ten years should be the minimum sentence for these yobs.

So, it’s the power of twitter. Who said that it could only happen in Egypt or Libya?
