GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED four men following a daylight jewellery robbery in Galway.

It is believed that the items stolen, which included a number of watches, could have been worth in the region of €1 million.

The incident took place on Shop Street in the city at 10.45am this morning.

Four men entered the shop wearing masks. One was brandishing what eyewitnesses said was a gun.

No one was injured, but the men fled on foot with a ‘substantial’ amount of jewellery, gardaí said.

Four men were later arrested in the city, and all property, as well as an imitation firearm, was recovered.

All are currently being held at Galway Garda Station.

A garda source said the jewellery is thought be worth arond €1 million, and described the arrests and recovery of the items as ‘good police work’.
