Man arrested over homicide of mother-of-one released without charge

Amy McCarthy was found dead in a vacant premises in Cork city centre in April.

A 26-YEAR-OLD man who was arrested in connection with the death of a young mother has been released without charge.

Amy McCarthy, 22, was found dead in a vacant premises on Sheares Street in Cork city centre on 30 April.

The vacant office block where the young mother was found had been used as a squat in the past. Paramedics were unable to resuscitate her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí have said that the man arrested in connection with the homicide has been released without charge this afternoon. He was arrested in the midlands yesterday morning.

A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Anyone with information on the homicide or who may be able to provide gardaí with a picture of Amy’s movements in the days before she was found is asked to contact Bridewell Garda Station on 021-4943330.
