Convicted IRA bomber Marian Price released after two years in prison

The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed news of her release.

IRISH REPUBLICAN MARIAN Price has been released from police custody after a ruling by the Parole Commissioners in Northern Ireland.

The convicted IRA Old Bailey bomber, whose married name is Marian McGlinchey, was imprisoned in May 2011 since former Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Owen Paterson, revoked her licence.

Due to ongoing health issues she was held at Belfast City Hospital, but is expected to be discharged later.

The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed news of her release.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams said Price’s release was a “much belated but welcome development”.

A statement from the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) said:

The Parole Commissioners have decided, given her current circumstances, to release Marian McGlinchey on licence. Such a licence is normally subject to conditions.

The 58-year-old had been given bail but her life licence, which was granted on release for the Old Bailey bomb, was subsequently revoked by Mr Paterson in May 2011.
