Michaella McCollum returns home to Ireland months after release from Peru jail

The convicted drug smuggler was pictured in Dublin Airport yesterday.

CONVICTED DRUG SMUGGLER Michaella McCollum has arrived back in Ireland from South America.

The 23-year-old was pictured in Dublin Airport after arriving off a flight from London.

It is understood she left Peru on Friday. She didn’t make any comment to the waiting media when she returned to Dublin Airport yesterday.

McCollum was jailed along with Scottish woman Melissa Reid after being arrested at Lima Airport in August 2013. The pair, dubbed the ‘Peru 2′, had been found with a large quantity of cocaine in food packets inside their luggage.

They were each sentenced to six months and eight years in jail for trafficking cocaine, but were both released on parole in March of this year.

Reid returned home to Scotland in June.

In her first interview post-release, McCollum said that she is a good person who made a decision in a “moment of madness”.

I made a decision in a moment of madness… I’m not a bad person… I want to demonstrate that I’m a good person.
