Total darkness didn't stop Galway rescuers reaching two men trapped on a mountain

The two men were tapped on the Twelve Bens Mountain Range last night.

TWO MEN HAVE been rescued from the Twelve Bens Mountain Range in Galway after an operation by rescuers in the middle of the night.

Galway Mountain Rescue Team were first made aware of the trapped men after 11pm last night and began a rescue operation when deployed from Galway city.

The men became trapped in the mountain range north of Recess and were sheltering in their survival bags as they waited for the rescuers.

Rescuers using mobile tracking software were at first unable to pinpoint the location of the two men.

In the early hours of this morning, despite poor visibility, visual contact was made with the men and rescuers began the task of attempting to reach them.

The two men were reached shortly after 4am this morning and then were led from the mountain by the rescuers.

The Galway Mountain Rescue Team says it is now standing down and returning to base.
