Gardaí investigate alleged egging of girl (10) at No campaign canvassing event

The incident is said to have occurred outside a shopping centre.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a young girl allegedly had an egg thrown at her while sitting on a No campaign truck today.

Gardaí in Navan are investigating the alleged assault on the girl, who is aged around 10, outside Navan Shopping Centre.

It is alleged that a male on a bicycle threw an egg at a group of people at approximately 4.30pm today.

While gardaí would not comment on who the people involved were, the No campaign group Mothers and Fathers Matter released a statement saying that the incident occurred while the girl was “sitting on the side of an advertising truck bearing a No campaign ad”.

The group said that the girl suffered an allergic reaction and her mother administered adrenalin at the scene.

The male who allegedly threw the egg is described as wearing a blue jacket and is said to have cycled from Kennedy Plaza in the direction of Preston Place.

Witnesses are asked to contact Navan Garda Station on 046 9036100.

Mothers and Fathers Matter said that No campaigners were canvassing outside Navan shopping centre at the time of the incident, describing it as a “meet and greet”.
