THE NEW PAPAL NUNCIO to Ireland is one of three ambassadors to have formally taken office after presenting their letters of credence to President Higgins this morning.

The most reverend Charles J Brown presented his credentials to the president at Áras an Úachtaráin this morning.

He was accompanied by the Reverend Juan Antonio Cruz Serrano, the first secretary at the Nunciature in Dublin.

Other ambassadors being presented today were Lbujisa Stankovic, the ambassador of Montenegro, and Mazen K Homoud, the ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The latter two ambassadors were accompanied by their wives.

The government was presented by Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, in his capacity as minister for Foreign Affairs, as well as David Cooney, who is the secretary-general at the Department and also Ireland’s new non-resident ambassador to the Holy See.

The ambassadors were escorted to and from the Áras by an escort of honour with a motorcycle detachment from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron from Cathal Brugha Barracks, commanded by Lieutenant Claire Mortimer.

The Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by troops drawn from the 3rd Infantry Battalion, Defence Forces Training Centre, under the command of Lieutenant Daire Roache.

The Army No. 1 Band was conducted by Captain Declan Whitston.

The new Nuncio was formally made a bishop by Pope Benedict XVI on January 6. Details of his appointment were confirmed in late November.

He fills the vacancy left by the departure of the previous Nuncio, Giuseppe Leanza, in July. Leanza is now the Papal Nuncio to the Czech Republic.

    • And still, these creatures walk amongst us. They have been caught red handed in the worst possible way. And still, they are allowed to carry on their nefarious charade. They laugh at our naievty, our compassion, our ability to feel for those of us less fortunate than ourselves, and our human need to give even the most despicable organisations a second chance, because we presume that they are human like us. No genuine religion run by human beings, would ever put their reputation before the safety of children, and certainly not when they knew that the result of doing so, would cause more children to be abused. These parasites are embedded within the church, our financial institutions, our political parties and big business. They are skilfull at manipulation and lying. They despise us normal human beings, because of the very things that make us human. The biggest thing that they fear, is that normal people become aware of their existence and learn to recognise them. For the first time in thousands of years, we normal people have the tools to seperate ourselves from these predators. In recent decades, scientests have developed tests that can undermine the psychopaths ability to circumvent psycholological tests which were designed to filter them out. Previously, y the socially adept psychopath would simply lie. The new tests, while expensive and time consuming, probe the relationships of the prospective employee with his, or her, previous employers, friends, co workers etc. which prevents the lies to work.

Cyril: Do you have any questions or any curiosity about whether this is being funded by Montenegro and/or the Kingdom of Jordan, since their ambassadors were also there?

Or does your concern for fiscal rectitude only extend as far as your hatred of religion?

Im not for the record I have always said that Islam makes Christianity look sane to the eyre of the pc brigade. However all religions have a victim mentality in much the sense as North Korea and Iran play the victim. If there are embassies to middle eastern countries this is not an embassy to a religion it is a State with possible trade links. The Vatican while technically a State is essentially a religious cult that is devouring taxpayers money.

Cyril, you are fudging the issue and allowing your theophobia to get the better of you!

Three ambassadors presented their credentials today, yet you cynically query whether the Vatican paid for this event or not. A less prejudiced poster might have also asked whether Montenegro or the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, whose ambassadors were also present today, chipped in towards the cost.

    • Almar Im not skipping anything. I dont know the credentials of the other candidates. if these countries have no trade benefit and if we are paying for it then it is an issue. However I know for certain the Vatican embassy is a State paying tribute financially to delusional worship. It is wrong on so many levels.

Cyril – you are STILL missing the point.

Your complaint was about the cost of today’s “bullcrap” ceremony. You said that the Vatican should pay. But today’s “bullcrap” was for three ambassadors. Why should the Holy See pay for a ceremony for two other ambassadors that have nothing to do with it?

    • Almar its not the ceremony its the Papal Nuncio’s presence here long term that I am querying. Who is paying for it? As regards the ceremony yes you are right the three nations involved should bear the cost. As for the worthiness of the other ambassadors being here on a long term basis I cant answer that I don’t know enough about them but paying to politicise myth and acknowledge the existence of a State based on such myth is patently wrong. I would also object if we had any ties with Saudi Arabia or other nations that defy human rights and science in favour of primitive delusional fairy tales.

Cyril – it’s pretty clear to me you were discussing the cost of today’s ceremony. Naturally each State pays for it’s own embassy and ambassador.

A simple “sorry, I misread the story” would have sufficed.

    • Almar not that Im a despot but I will quote myself again “One would think its the Vatican but these guys are better than pimps at collecting money, an apt analogy considering all the bling and flamboyant clothes they wear”.

If I was talking about the ceremony why would I have said I presume the Vatican will be paying for it? Why would I presume the Vatican would pay for an Irish ceremony?

Cyril: Why would you think that the Irish State would pay to host a foreign ambassador?

You referred at the end of a story about a ceremony to “this bullcrap”. This really only makes sense if you are referring to the ceremony, not the nuncio’s keep.

In any event my original point stands. IF you were referring to the nuncio’s bed and board, then why single him out and ask if the State pays for him, while not asking if the State pays for other ambassadors?

As I said, it would just be simpler to admit that you misread the story and allowed your theophobia to run away with itself.

      Reply
    • Almar I said at the beginning that the Vatican probably does pay for him but I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt. As for the others I have dealt with that. As for theophobia what the hell is that? For something to be a phobia it must be irrational. Adults believing in imaginary friends is to be feared.

  • And how much did this ceremony cost 50k 100k or more, why can’t they just get a taxi, sign the form then head off again.

So some civil servant today thought it was better to spend 100k on a ceremony rather than on hospital services for the sick

And the army are looking for a private company to cut the grass at their Bases, if they didn’t have to do this crap they could cut the grass themselves. Ps this is not having a go at the solders themselves who risk their lives in peacekeeping missions but rather at the elite who think the best use of a highly trained soldier is to play dress up

    • These ceremonies are important traditions and should be kept alive throughout recessions or depressions, money isn’t everything! Traditions, honour and respect are worth a few quid. Flying politicians all over the world for a Paddys day Piss up now that’s a waste of money

    • Did you at least watch the video? It’s pretty accurate stuff which is in the public domain which most Catholics just decide to ignore. I’m sure the ordinary catholic did an awful lot to contribute to the catholic church but more fool them. Can you explain to me why you choose to ignore the child trafficking, child rape, protection of peadophiles, enslavement of women and promotion of unprotected sex to spread aids!!! Answer me that!!

      Reply
    • @David: I’d rather go to bed: but i have to answer you I suppose: Lets take them 1by1; child trafficking: don’t get that one, in fact its the first time I’ve heard that accusation. If you are talking about adoptions in Ireland years ago – the church can’t be blamed for that. child rape; as you know, not an exclusively religious peculiarity, certainly not the reserve of the RCC. Protection of pedos: RCC got that one really wrong, noone can deny that. But noone can deny the radical change that has happened on that front – vatican said last week, if a bishop covers up, he will be punished civilly and by the church. enslavement of women: laundries; facilitated by the church sanctioned by state and society…there was a lot of s**t in Irish society then as there is today. ….but the last one really is a bit throw away ….promotion of unsafe sex to spread aids…..the church promotes the only way to prevent its spread….faithful relationships. But we in the west think the best thing to do is slap on a johnny and off with ya. If it was as simple as that the AIDS crisis would be over. The place is awash with condoms and rates get higher every year? you explain that?

      Reply
    • You are actually deluded!!! Child trafficking comes from the forceful removal of womens children when they were put in the laundries and then sold to couples in the USA for profit aka child trafficking or abduction which ever! So you are saying that because rapists exist outside the church they cant be blamed for the rapists inside the church, right!!! In relation to the church doing a good job with peado priests, are you mental. Sure wasnt it only a few months ago that it was found out the Cardinal Brady made a child swear to silence that no abuse happened, was he punished no!! this man is still a cardinal – do you think thats right! And nobody cares about how the Vatican would punish a priest – prob by promoting him, the should be thrown in prison, once they break the law of the land they should be tried by the countries laws not some make believe crap! In relation to the AIDs comment i meant to type the promotion of unsafe sex that leads to AIDs spreading, so now you are saying thats the spread of aids is everyones elses fault who doesnt follow a catholic way of life!! are you serious! the pope said that people shouldnt use condoms if they have AIDS. what if the person who has aids is in a faithful relationship and gives aids to his/her partner, same thing spread of aids that a condom would have prevented
