NY police find fifth body in suspected serial killer case

The remains of a fifth person have been found close to where the bodies of four women were found last year in Long Beach.

POLICE IN NEW YORK HAVE found what they believe are human remains at a beach in Long Island, close to where the bodies of four women were found last year.

Suffolk County Police had returned to the beach yesterday to search for a 24-year-old woman, Shannan Gilbert, who has been missing since May and was last seen in that area, the New York Times reports.

Officers had been searching for Gilbert last December when they came across the remains of four bodies clustered together along the side of the road.

Investigators have not disclosed if the remains are male or female.

PIX11 reports that police have said Gilbert was a prostitute who went to meet a client she knew through the Craigslist site when she disappeared.

Although the causes of death for the four have not been revealed by police, they have said they believe they were killed in the same way by the same person or persons, according to NBC New York.
