It should go without saying but if your glassware is overflowing with smoking liquids and your equipment is constantly exploding then you’re probably doing something wrong.

In fairness the science industry has not much of an internal issue about how they view their female colleagues (not more than everywhere else I suppose). I would imagine that the stereotypes that they were trying to break down were those which perhaps women outside the science world may have of science… that all the women in science are dull, ugly etc…

That said it was a pretty stupid way to do it. Just do a video profile of one of the intelligent, active, sociable and attractive actual female scientists. There are a good few believe it or not.

This ad is disgraceful! All the maths on the board on the board is gibberish, open brackets with no closed brackets and everything.

If I’d seen that ad before choosing my career I would never have gone into science! That ad and lab looks like something straight out of a bad American teen sitcom.

Looks like an ad for Tallafornia…. but there would be more test tube experiments in that.

I actually am a scientist / bench monkey, and would never in my life consider going into the lab wearing high heels, mini skirts, nail polish or lipstick! Reasons including chemical spills, being on your feet all day and washing glassware with acetone (thus removing nail varnish, even through nitrile gloves).nThis is rediculous!

What ever was in the fumes coming out of that beaker they definitely got up the ad makers nose!

I am a female chemistry PhD student and I have taken part in projects on a European level to encourage women into science. What they are showing is demeaning to the work we do. Why didn’t they ask actual chemists to take part?! It’s not like we’re hard to find. We make your medicines, your plastics, your batteries, your cars… And your lipsticks!

Ridiculous. The Big Bang theory does a better job of encouraging women into science than this piece of crap.nThis is obviously what Berlusconi has been demoted to.

Open-toed shoes and short skirts, no lab coats, a clear board, and the only dude in the video is ”geek-chic”… Well, they seem to have pegged lab work.

I’ve seen some ridiculous “down with the cool kids” type of advertising before, but this is just hillariously bad!!

Ah get off yer soapboxes.. If it was three blokes and based around football saying ‘science:it’s a boy thing’ there wouldn’t be a word or else ‘why are they segregating women’… Everythings ‘offensive’ now, I refuse to believe that anyone finds this offensive, mildly annoyed, cheesed off or bewildered but offensive, no. Don’t dilute this powerful feeling by applying it to this silly ad.

They’ll never make science sexy. Although the black girl is all kinds of hot :-)!
