Poll: Do you support the City of Culture scheme?

With fresh controversy surrounding Limerick’s City of Culture year, we ask you what you think of the scheme itself.

THE NATIONAL CITY of Culture scheme has not been a success so far in its latest host of Limerick. It has already lost an artistic director and two programmers and there were calls last night for its board to resign.

The board’s chairman Pat Cox denies that his motivation in appointing the CEO is because she worked for him when he was an MEP. The process of choosing which city becomes the designated host of the City of Culture has also come under question – it is chosen by the Cabinet.

However, others point to the potential economic, social and cultural benefits for the area for the duration of the event.

What do you think? Do you support the idea of having a City of Culture at all?

Poll Results:

No (1134)
Yes, but aspects of the scheme should change (720)
Yes (163)
