The Immigrant Council of Ireland has said our laws are keeping people trapped in violence relationships. Should domestic violence be formally recognised in the legislation?
THE IMMIGRANT COUNCIL of Ireland has recently called on the government to formally recognise domestic violence in immigration law to prevent people from being ‘trapped’ in abusive relationships.
One woman told TheJournal.ie about how she had to drop rape charges against her husband to stay in the country but the Department of Justice has said it does not accept that the lack of specific legislation is keeping people in violent relationships.
