Poll: Have you read the fiscal treaty?

It’s 24 pages – but do you plan to read it before voting?

IT WAS THE first Lisbon referendum when then-Taoiseach Brian Cowen made the fatal error of admitting he had not read the text of the treaty that people were due to be voting on.

This time around, it seems that politicians won’t be making that mistake. With less than four weeks to go until the 31 May referendum on the fiscal compact, many of the political parties have launched their campaigns in recent days.

The compact is a lot shorter than previous European treaties, coming in at 24 pages compared to the Lisbon Treaty’s massive 410 pages. If that’s too much, we here at TheJournal.ie also rewrote the compact in layman’s terms.

So here’s the question: have you read the Fiscal Compact?

Poll Results:

No,  but I plan to (537)
No, and I don't plan to (502)
Yes (431)
