IN THE NEVERENDING story that is the formation-of-government talks, Irish Water is a stumbling block that the two largest parties haven’t as yet been able to overcome.
Yesterday Fine Gael’s Leo Varadkar and Fianna Fáil’s Michael McGrath engaged in something of a war of words over the utility – it’s an issue that just won’t go away.
One of the biggest reported stalling points regarding Irish Water is what should happen if the charges were to be scrapped. Fine Gael’s Richard Bruton says they should be refunded while Fianna Fáil doesn’t think that should happen. There are even suggestions today that to not refund water charges would be in breach of the Irish constitution.
But, regardless of whether or not you paid your charges, what do you think?
We’re asking: If water charges were to be scrapped, should those who paid them be refunded?
