Masked raiders 'with southern accents' tied up an elderly couple and threatened them with a poker

The robbery happened last night in the Tandragee area in Armagh.

A COUPLE IN their 70s were tied up, robbed and threatened with a poker in a raid on a house in Armagh last night.

The PSNI says that a number of men burst into the house in the Portadown Road area of Tandragee at about 9.30pm and threatened the couple.

They took cash from the elderly occupants before tieing them up and locking them in a bathroom.

Police say the man and woman suffered minor cuts to their wrists in the incident and were left badly shaken by the ordeal.

Investigators say that the intruders may have been from the south.

“The intruders spoke with southern accents and wore black clothes, scarves covering their faces and woollen hats. It is unclear at this time if they left the scene in a vehicle or on foot,” according to Inspector Philip Quinn.

Any witnesses or people who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area are being asked to contact police directly or through the independent charity Crimestoppers.
