MORE THAN 300 schools are to remain closed today in Northern Ireland due to the impacts of Storm Chandra, which is bringing strong winds and heavy rain across Ireland this morning. 

The UK Met Office has issued an Amber warning for Antrim, Derry and Down from 5am until 9pm, with Armagh, Fermanagh and Tyrone under a Status Yellow warning until midnight.

In total, 305 schools across counties Antrim, Armagh and Down have announced closures for today, a list of which can be found here. 

Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and a number of Ulster University campuses are also closed for today, both making the announcements on social media yesterday evening. 

“Where appropriate and possible, teaching will move online for our students,” QUB said in a post on X.

“Where necessary, some staff will continue to work on campus to carry out crucial roles, delivering and supporting essential services.  

“Student support services will be available remotely and Queen’s Accommodation will remain open as normal.”

Due to Storm Chandra, we will be closing our Belfast, Coleraine and Jordanstown campuses tomorrow, Tuesday 27 January. Teaching will move online where possible.

The McClay Library is closed and will be open again at 9pm this evening, the university said.
