Shane Geoghegan murder accused says sorry for shooting
Trial of 25-year-old accused of killing Limerick rugby player hears he told gardaí he shot him several times, but would not explain why.
THE MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING Limerick rugby player Shane Geoghegan, 28, has said he shot him seven or eight times, despite Geoghegan pleading with him to stop, RTÉ reports.
Geoghan was shot hear his home in Dooradoyle, Limerick, on 9 November, 2008, in a suspected case of mistaken identity.
Barry Doyle, 25, with addresses at Portland Row, Dublin, and Hyde Road, Limerick, has pleaded not guilty to his murder.
Yesterday, his trial heard that he told gardaí he had shot Geoghegan.
He said Geoghegan had said “please stop”. He said he had shot him several times, according to the detectives who interviewed him, the Irish Times reports.
Although Doyle told gardaí he had shot Geoghegan, he did not explain why and said he was sorry he had done it. If he could turn back the clock, he said, he wouldn’t do it again.
